We often focus on large, expansive projects but smaller, more intimate applications can really bring out the best qualities of a lighting fixture. This month's photograph proves that not all illumination needs to be over-the-top to be effective.

This private home (which for close readers will be recognizable as our 2-for-$200 contest archetype) contains several lighting fixtures from both TEKA Illumination and sister company B-K Lighting. The main walkways are lined with Miniature Beacon Pathlights that provides an illuminated area approximately 12 feet in diameter at a 24" mounting height (Xelogen G4) along with a self-illuminating top shade window.

The meticulously designed and kept flowering beds and rock formations are layered into the overall landscape plan and specific environs can be enjoyed throughout the master plan. Great lighting plans will often bring out these specific sub-sections of a landscape that may be drowned out during day time hours because of colorful flowering plants, architectural details or other factors. Intimate lighting focuses our attention to these micro-landscapes and the right choice of lighting fixture becomes all-important.

The MBP (Xelogen G4) provides light approximately 12' in diameter when mounted on a 24" stem.

The warm CCT provided by the Miniature Beacon Pathlight brings out the subtle colors of the natural granite stone and heightens the saturation of chlorophyll in the surrounding plants. A common design practice is to place a lighting fixture between a small cluster of plant-life giving the illusion that the luminaire has sprung from the ground in a natural state. The MBP shown above is a typical example.
